Redeeming Love Bible Broadcast

Nice People, Mean People

Pastor Phil Duddy Season 4 Episode 18

Send us a text

Here's something you don't always think about - sin is often expressed nicely. There are millions of people who express their sin in nice person ways. They might be really involved in church, they might give a lot of time, effort, and money within the community. They might be sweet, polite, kind, even moral. But inwardly they are still rejecting Jesus on a daily basis.

There is no earning salvation. It comes only through the faith of Jesus Christ.

NEW BOOK! I'm pleased to say that we have completed a new book that has been years in the making. The Ten Shirot: Songs of Redemption looks at ten songs that were sung through pivotal times in Scripture. It's an examination of the redemption of Jesus, of worship, and of Scripture in a way that we believe you probably haven't seen before. Check it out at https://a.co/d/0a4KIooL .

Speaker 1:

Hello and welcome to the Redeeming Love Bible broadcast. My name is Phil Duddy, evangelist with Grace Baptist Tabernacle of King, north Carolina. Really glad to have you with me today. On the program we're going to be in the Book of Romans, as always. Feel free to contact us at redeemingthelostaticloudcom.

Speaker 1:

Very, very practical sort of message today from the Book of Romans. Especially if you're engaged in any sort of evangelistic ministry, you already know that you encounter people on a very, very, very regular basis. You encounter all sorts of different kinds of people out there. You encounter people from different cultures. You encounter people with different personalities, with different attitudes, with different experiences, all sorts of different walks of life, all sorts of different situations in the present, all sorts of intentions and goals for the future. You encounter some really nice people and you encounter some really mean people over the course of ministry.

Speaker 1:

The point is, everybody is in sin. We're going to be unfolding this in the Book of Romans. One of the first things the Lord gave me about this message is no matter how the sin gets expressed, it's still sin. We've got some people who are more in the nice category and they express their sin in nice person ways. They might be really involved in your church. They might give a lot of time, a lot of effort, a lot of money in the community. They might be really socially sweet. They might be very, very polite. They might be very, very humanly kind. They might be very, very moral. At the same time, inwardly they're rejecting Jesus on a daily basis. Inwardly they can even become hostile toward Jesus on a daily basis, even though they express their sin nicely. Oftentimes those folks are expressing a sin of pride.

Speaker 1:

Oftentimes I've encountered those folks may feel guilty about something and they're rejecting Jesus. They're rejecting the blood and they're rejecting the cross. But they're embracing a lot of social work. They're embracing becoming a fine, upstanding member of the community. They're embracing even becoming involved in a local church. But inwardly they're rejecting Jesus. But outwardly they're doing all this work out of a sense of guilt to try to cover it up and balance the scales. In the eyes of God that's absolutely false. That makes it an expression of sin. It's against God, even though it's coming across in a very, very sweet, kind, nice way. I've seen that time and time again in folks where I minister here in the American South Most people that I've encountered in ministry. They don't make threats, they don't try to disrupt our services. That has happened before with me. That's not the majority of cases that I see.

Speaker 1:

Most people are humanly and socially polite and kind. At the same time. They're going to reject Jesus At the same time. They're going to stick with their morality. They're going to stick with whatever they think is right in their own eyes, which just happens to be very socially polite in America.

Speaker 1:

But it's a rejection of the cross and it's a rejection of the blood. It's a rejection of the father, it's a rejection of the son, it's a rejection of the Holy Ghost and it's an embracing of a human philosophy in its place. It's a rejection of the cross, even though it comes across as nice, and it's an embracing of a human philosophy, a human morality, a human social code, a human way of dealing with guilt, a human way of expressing pride. It's a very, very subtle thing, but it's a very, very huge thing and it makes all the difference eternally. You're going to encounter nice people. You're going to encounter mean people. Mean people who yell at you, who curse you, who threaten you, who even take some action against you in some sort of a way, but it's done in a hostile way, it's done in a cruel way and it's done in a mean way, and that's a more obvious expression of sin. It's a more obvious expression of it. It's an expression of sin all the same.

Speaker 1:

So we need to understand that, even if it comes across in a nice way, or even if it comes across in a mean way, that sin is still being expressed. And it's still being expressed and it's still in the eyes of God, it's still before God, it's still not hidden from God and God wants us as His church, us as His people, to minister to folks, no matter how they're coming across, no matter how they're expressing that sin nature, whether to prove their own goodness, they're going to write a $20,000 check to your church just to prove that they're a good person, just to prove that they're an upstanding member of the community, just to prove that in that sort of arrogant, phariseical way. Or they're going online and blasting you on social media. They're cussing you out to your face. They're standing up in the middle of your service and they're shouting at you, and not in an amen, in hallelujah way. They're shouting at you in a hostile way. Whatever that case may be, we still need to understand that this is sin. We still need to understand that God loves everybody. He loves the entire world, whether they're nice sinners or whether they're mean sinners, amen.

Speaker 1:

So we're going to go into the book of Romans here. I'm going to start out right in verse 21,. But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets. Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe, for there is no difference for all who have sinned and come short of the glory of God. You know we'll stop there. You know the righteousness of God without the law being manifested. It was witnessed by the law and the prophets, it was witnessed by what we call the Old Testament, and hallelujah in amen. The day came where Jesus went to the cross, he shed his blood, he became sin, he died and he rose again on that third day. And now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ, by faith, not of works.

Speaker 1:

This is where a lot of your nice expressions of sin will come in, at least what I've seen, you know, here in the American South. This is where a lot of your nicer expressions of sin will come in. People will try to earn their salvation or people will try to prove that they're already a good, decent person. People will do all sorts of nice things. They may do your favors, they may mow your grass, they may do this, they may do the other thing, they may just generally try to do nice things, even try to do things from the Bible without the faith of Jesus Christ, trying to earn their salvation, trying to get their life back together, trying to constantly prove how good they are, and it's a type of blasphemy. It's a type of blasphemy because it's coming by another way.

Speaker 1:

Salvation is by grace and through faith. It's not of work, it's not of our works, it's not by the things that we do, it's not by the things that we don't do, even if those things are very moral, upstanding things. But that's not the way of salvation that the Lord gives us here in His Word, especially in the book of Romans and if you don't believe the book of Romans, you can cross check it with the book of Ephesians. But salvation is by grace and through faith and there is no other way by faith of Jesus Christ, nobody else, nothing else, not by faith of your own works. Not by faith of your church attendance, not by faith of your tithing record, not by faith of the fact that you don't drink alcohol, not by faith of the fact that you don't smoke cigarettes, not by faith of the fact that you follow the golden rule, not by faith in anything else but the Lord Jesus Christ, the one who was slain for you, the one who became sin for you, the one who died for you, the one who rose up again on the third day, and the one who is calling you now to repent of your wicked works, even if they're humanly nice, they're humanly sweet, they're socially nice, they're socially upstanding. You're human works. They are a sin that is dragging you into the depths of hell, and God wants you to be saved and born again and filled with His Holy Ghost.

Speaker 1:

Amen and hallelujah. So come under Him, his way, come under Him by faith, come under Him and receive His grace by faith. You can't give enough money, you can't give enough time, you can't give enough effort, you can't memorize enough Bible to cover your sinful heart. You can't work hard enough, because Jesus already did all the work that was necessary. Jesus already did all of the work that was necessary and right and good in the eyes of God when he became your sin the cross. But will you come humbly? Will you come as a convicted, broken, humble sinner in need of grace? Amen and hallelujah, and if so, call upon the name of the Lord Jesus right now. Don't even wait for the end of this broadcast, amen, but call upon the name of the Lord Jesus right now, speak to him just like he's sitting right next to you. Amen and glory and hallelujah, and ask him to be your savior, put your faith in him today.

Speaker 1:

My friend, you know the righteousness of God. You know it's by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all of them that believe For there is no difference, for all had sinned and come short of the glory of God. You know the book of Romans is. You know you look up in chapter three. It's talking about Jews and Gentiles. We have before proved Jews and Gentiles that they are all under sin and this is a continuation of that.

Speaker 1:

We find ourselves in the time of the church and we find ourselves here and there are, you know, jew and Gentile alike. Everyone's under sin and every variety of Gentile is also under sin, no matter what the culture is, no matter what the background is, no matter what the history is, no matter what the skin color is, no matter what, no matter what language we speak, no matter what country we're in, everybody is under sin. And the reality is, if you look at chapter three, verse 22, everybody's under sin, but the righteousness of God, which is, by faith of Jesus Christ, unto all and upon all of them that believe For there is no difference all of sin and come short of the glory of God. All have sinned, and this righteousness of God, this goodness of God, this forgiveness of sins, this forgiveness of sins, this promise of you know being born again, you know the precious, you know holy ghost, the forgiveness of sin, the covering of sin, the holy ghost, the fruits of the spirit, everything you know. This righteousness of God, which is all by faith of Jesus Christ, is unto all and upon all of them that believe. So, no matter if there, you know, no matter if we've got a mean sinner, no matter if we've got a nice sinner, that same righteousness is upon them If they believe, you know, and if God's showing you that you're lost today, if you believe in Jesus Christ, if you have faith in his name, if you believe what he's saying if you believe who he is, he is the King of kings, he is the Lord of lords, he is the Son of God, he is the Lamb of God who was slain and he has risen again, never to die again. And his blood is enough to deal with your sin, no matter what that sin is, no matter how that sin has come out of you, no matter who you have affected by your sin, no matter you know how badly you may have affected somebody else by your sin, no matter what you know today, you know God says. You know today is the day of salvation.

Speaker 1:

You're hearing him today. He's speaking to you today. He's drawing you today. He's showing you today that his blood was shed for you. His blood covers your sins. His blood is for you. He is drawing you. He wants you to be saved. He wants you to be born again. He wants you to be reconciled. He wants you to be with him where he is. He wants you to be seated with him in heavenly places. He does not want you to experience one second in hell. He wants to give you the gifts of the Spirit. He wants to give you joy. He wants to give you hope. He wants to give you peace. He wants to give you wholeness. He wants to give you wisdom. He wants to heal you. He wants to help you walk through the consequences of your sin. He wants to use you to be a witness to other people so that other people can hear his gospel through you. He's you know, he wants all of these things for you.

Speaker 1:

The question is do you, do you have this faith? Do you believe that he is who he says he is, that he's done what he has done, that he's doing what he is doing and hallelujah and amen, he is going to do things that he is going to do and bless, to be the name of the Lord. He's talking to you right now and hallelujah and amen. This salvation, this righteousness, which is by simple faith of Jesus Christ, he's offering it to you today. And the question is do you believe him? The question is do you believe him? And the question is you know, will you call upon the name of the Lord right now, right this moment, right this second, and call upon him and hallelujah and amen, just simply call upon him. Ask him, you know, to be your Lord, ask him to be your Savior, ask him to cover your sins, ask him to come into your life. Ask him to give you a new heart. Ask him to take away the stony, sinful, wicked, messed up heart and give you a heart of flesh. You know, amen. Ask him to be born again. That's the righteousness of God, which is by faith.

Speaker 1:

Man, the world is in sin. You know. Everyone's born in sin. You know.

Speaker 1:

We can go back and read it in the book of Romans, here, chapter 3, verse 10. There is none righteous no, not one. There's none that understandeth. There is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way they are. Together become unprofitable. There is none to do with good no, not one.

Speaker 1:

Their throat is an open sepulcher. With their tongues they have used to see. The poison of asps is under their lips, whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood. Destruction and misery are, in their ways, the way of peace they have not known. There is no fear of God before their eyes. That is the natural state of the world. But even so, that is the natural state of every man, woman and child. But even so, the love of God is here. God is here, he is love, he is holiness. His mercy, his grace are here and they are upon you today and he's calling you out of your sin and he's calling you into life.

Speaker 1:

And the way of that, how do you get out of your sin? How do you get into life? You believe on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Hallelujah, amen. And if that faith is rising up out of your heart, let those words rise up out of your mouths to God today Amen, call upon him, ask him to be saved, ask him to come into your life, ask him to cover your sins, but ask him in faith, hallelujah, amen. And I want to thank you so much for joining here today. I hope this has been an encouragement to the church today and encouragement to the Christians today. This is what we've got to be about in our towns and our cities and our communities and our countries, and if God has shown you that you're lost and you are saved and you're born again today, amen and hallelujah, we would love to hear about it.
